Cool Magic: Instructions for use

Last update: 5 Sep 2025

1. Introduction

This user manual is dedicated to the Cool Magic heat pump, which is supplied as an accessory of the Big Magic ventilation unit. The Cool Magic heat pump is designed to cool and heat living spaces through the ductwork of the ventilation system. In low-energy and passive houses, the Cool Magic serves as the main source of heating and cooling.

Please read this manual carefully before putting the unit into operation. Following the instructions and recommendations will ensure proper and safe operation of the unit.

The manufacturer reserves the right to make technical modifications and changes to this manual without prior notice.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Please pay close attention to the text marked as such. Following these instructions is important for your safety and the proper operation of the Cool Magic unit.

2. Designated use

The Cool Magic heat pump serves as an active source of cold and heat for the Big Magic ventilation unit. It is designed for comfortable and energy-efficient cooling and heating of houses.

The heat pump allows heating and cooling in the full working range of the Big Magic ventilation unit, i.e. 50-450 m³/h. It is operable at outdoor air temperatures from -15 °C to +24 °C in heating mode and from -15 °C to +46 °C in cooling mode.

3. Safety instructions

Follow all safety instructions in this manual. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury or damage to the equipment.

General safety principles

  • The Cool Magic heat pump was designed and manufactured for use in residential buildings.
  • The equipment may only be used for the purpose for which it was intended and only in accordance with the technical conditions specified by the manufacturer.

Installation and operation

  • The installation of the unit must be carried out in accordance with applicable safety regulations and standards.
  • Installation, electrical connection, commissioning and servicing may only be carried out by an authorised technician with the appropriate qualifications and knowledge.
  • The equipment must not be modified or altered by anyone other than an authorised technician.

Operation of the unit

  • Only persons who are physically and mentally fit and who have read these instructions may operate the equipment without supervision.
  • The heat pump can only be installed and put into operation after the rough construction work has been completed. Installation in the construction site is not permitted!

Maintenance and safety measures

  • ⚠ All servicing work, including filter replacement, can only be carried out when the unit is disconnected from the mains.

4. Device description

Cool Magic is an air-to-air heat pump and allows you to not only heat the air in winter, but also cool it in summer. The treated air is evenly distributed to all rooms by the ventilation system and the temperature can be individually controlled as required. The whole system thus combines comfort, a healthy indoor environment and low energy consumption.

Cool Magic has an outdoor condensing unit. The evaporator is integrated in the body of the ventilation unit Big Magic.

5. Operating modes

5.1 Cooling mode

In this mode, the compressor unit is allowed to operate in cooling mode.

The actual switching on, off and power control of the compressor unit is determined by the control algorithm fully automatically. It takes into account:

  • Set the desired temperature in each room
  • The actual temperature in each room
  • Evolution of the actual temperature, i.e. whether or not the actual temperature is approaching the desired temperature

The cooling mode can be controlled using the A1MCP controller or the app.

5.2 Heating mode

In this mode the compressor unit is allowed to operate in heating mode.

  • Taking into account whether the control of a bivalent source, e.g. underfloor heating or heating panels, is activated in the system

The heating mode can be controlled using the A1MCP controller or the app.

5.3 Auto mode - Auto

In automatic mode, the system evaluates whether the legislative conditions for the start or end of the heating season are met according to the outside temperature. Accordingly, the system automatically switches from cooling to heating mode and vice versa.

Start of the heating season: the average outdoor temperature in September-May falls below 13 °C for two consecutive days.

End of heating season: the average outdoor temperature rises above 13 °C for two consecutive days in September-May.

The automatic mode can be activated using the A1MCP controller or the app.

6. Controls

The A1MCP controller is a standard control panel designed to control Big Magic systems.

When the Cool Magic heat pump is connected, a new heating control screen is activated.

6.1 Heating/cooling control screen

You can set the desired temperature on the heating control screen.

In the case of one controller in the system, the temperature setting applies to the entire system.

In the case of multiple controllers in the system, the temperature setting is applied to the respective room, the system then evaluates the settings from all rooms.

The temperature can be adjusted:

  • Sun symbol for a comfortable temperature of 23 °C
  • Marigold symbol for a decay temperature of 3 °C = guarding the frost-free temperature
  • Manually on a scale in the range of 22 °C +/- 10 K

6.2 Feature activation screen

Cool Magic can be activated or deactivated on the bottom left of the screen. Once activated, it switches between cooling/heating/auto modes on the bottom right. The last mode in memory is always activated.

⚠ Activating Cool Magic does not automatically start cooling or heating. The start of the compressor will only take place according to the evaluation of the actual and set temperature from the controllers connected in the system.

7. Warranty

In addition to the statutory warranty, the Cool Magic heat pump is covered by an extended warranty under the same conditions as the ventilation unit Big Magic.
